DENVER — David Freese stood in the visitor’s clubhouse at Coors Field Tuesday, not 100 feet from the locker of Neftali Feliz, his new teammate on the Pirates and a man with whom Freese will forever be linked in baseball history.
“If you’re fortunate enough and play this game long enough, you’re gonna be with a lot of guys around the league and you’re gonna have memories with so many different players,” Freese said.
This memory, however, is extraordinary. It comes from the night of October 27, 2011, during Game 6 of that year’s Fall Classic, a contest that some called the greatest World Series game ever played.
